Brazilians overcome Argentines and win places in the Crossfit world; Gui Malheiros is out

Brazil reigned almost absolute in the last leg to South America to define who will represent the continent at the Nobull CrossFit Games 2023, the biggest crossfit world championship that takes place in August. This weekend, the Brazilians conquered 4 of the 5 places in South America in the competition that took place in Rio de Janeiro.

The highlight was the classification of two men in the ‘Elite Male’ category: Kaique Cerveny and Kalyan Souza, who will qualify for the Games final for the first time. Before the competition, it was believed that the Brazilians would win both places. However, a name was given as ‘right’. But, the favorite Guilherme Malheiros finished the qualifying stage in third place and did not stamp the passport for the world final. Malheiros, who in the competition broke the world record for the Snatch movement (141 kg), did not get good placements in tests that required more use of ergometers and will not return to games in 2023.

The first Brazilian vacancy went to Cerveny, who is 24 years old, lives in Brasília (DF), studies nutrition and, in 2019, was Brazilian crossfit champion. Cerveny, who was recently named as an affair with former BBB Juliette, had an injury in 2022 and was unable to compete in the final selections for the competition. The athlete, who was born in the interior of São Paulo, led the competition from the 1st of the three days of competition.

The second place was conquered by Kalyan Souza, from the interior of São Paulo. He was seen as the ‘underdog’ in the competition, but he showed excellent physical conditioning and technical skills, including winning the last race of the competition.

In the dispute for the two places in the ‘Elite Feminine’ category, the Brazilian Victoria Campos was in the highest place on the podium and will compete for the second time in the individual finals of the competition. Victoria, who is from Santos (SP), in 2022, ranked 33rd in the final of the games. The second vacancy went to the Argentinean Alexia Williamss.

In the team dispute, Brazil also came out on top. The Templo team, from the state of São Paulo, was in the lead and stamped the passport for the world final that will take place from August 1st to 6th in Madison, United States. Second place in the category went to the Argentine team Q21.
