Brightspeed Expands Fiber Broadband to 40,000 Locations in Louisiana with New Federal Funding
Brightspeed Expands Broadband Access in Louisiana
Brightspeed has announced a significant boost to its fiber broadband network in Louisiana. The company received $7,510,130 from the federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program. This funding allows Brightspeed to extend its network to an additional 2,800 locations.
Scott Stringer, regional director at Brightspeed, highlighted the importance of high-speed internet for individuals and businesses. He emphasized that connectivity is essential for communities to thrive.
Currently, Brightspeed plans to invest billions in high-speed fiber-optic networks across 20 states, aiming to reach over four million homes and businesses. In Louisiana alone, the goal is to connect approximately 40,000 locations. This is critical, as the state ranks low in internet coverage and speed. Around ten percent of Louisiana residents currently lack access to a plan offering at least 25Mbps download and 3Mbps upload speeds.
As of now, over 24,000 locations in Louisiana already have access to Brightspeed Fiber Internet, with more coming online soon. The new funding will help expand services to several parishes, including Bienville, Caddo, and Jefferson Davis.
Pamela Sherwood, Vice President at Brightspeed, noted the growing need for reliable and fast internet for various purposes like work, education, and telemedicine. The company aims to leverage BEAD funding to enhance internet services further.
The BEAD program is part of the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which allocates $42.5 billion to improve broadband access in underserved and rural areas.
Brightspeed is currently running special holiday pricing deals for new customers. For more information about availability and plans, interested customers can visit Brightspeed’s official website.
In summary, Brightspeed’s initiative represents a vital step towards improving internet connectivity in Louisiana, aligning with the federal effort to ensure that all Americans have access to fast and reliable broadband services.
