British lawmaker stabbed to death at constituency event

A British parliamentarian was stabbed to death at a constituency event.

According to the BBC, on the 15th local time, House of Representatives David Aimes (69) of the ruling Conservative Party was attacked and killed at the scene while attending an event to meet with residents in his constituency.

Aimes, who was meeting with residents at a church in the Southend West of Essex, England, was stabbed several times by a man who suddenly approached him. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene and gave first aid to the scene, but eventually died.

Police arrested a 25-year-old Somalian-British man who attacked Aimes as a suspect at the scene and also obtained the weapon used in the crime.

“As a result of the initial investigation, the motive for the murder was found to be linked to Islamic extremism, and it is presumed that this suspect was the sole act of the suspect.”

Ames was the first Conservative party leader to enter Parliament in 1983. The BBC described Ames as “politically and socially conservative”.

“As a public official and devout Catholic, he has been working hard for the past few decades for anti-abortion and animal welfare,” he said.

Another assassination of an incumbent in five years… British society ‘shocked’

British society was shocked when an incumbent member was stabbed to death at a constituency event in broad daylight. The British Parliament and the Prime Minister’s Office hoisted flags today.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “I am filled with shock and sadness at the loss of one of the most beloved colleagues in British politics.”

House Speaker Lindsey Hoyle said: “This incident has shocked British society and beyond Parliament.

The UK has seen a surge in terrorist attacks on lawmakers in recent years. In 2010, Labor MP Steven Tims was stabbed to death by a student affected by Islamic extremism, and in 2016 Labor MP Jo Cox, who was campaigning against Brexit, was shot dead by far-right men.

England “After five years, another incumbent member was killed by a voter attack,” he said.

Cox’s husband, who lost his wife, also issued a statement on the death of Aimes on the same day, accusing that “attacking a representative elected by the people is an attack on democracy.”
