British PM Sunak inaugurated… Stresses ‘economic stability and trust’

Former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak, who was elected leader of the ruling Conservative Party, took office as Prime Minister on the 25th.

Prime Minister Sunak emphasized economic stability in a speech in front of the prime minister’s residence after an audience with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on the same day.

Prime Minister Sunak has promised to put “economic stability and trust” at the center of the agenda.

“I am fully aware of how difficult the situation is,” he added.

In particular, he promised to face the “serious economic crisis” and lead a government with “integrity, professionalism and responsibility”.

Prime Minister Sunak is the first non-white person in British history and the youngest prime minister for 200 years.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sunak has announced that he will retain Treasury Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who took office earlier this month.

In addition, as former Prime Minister Truss’s cabinet members resigned one after the other on the 25th, including Attorney General Brandon Lewis, the formation of a new cabinet is expected to accelerate.

Prime Minister Sunak will also cut spending to close a £40 billion (about US$45 billion) public finance hole created by a six-month subsidy program for energy bills, including the economic downturn, Reuters said.
