(LONDON = Yonhap News) Correspondent Choi Yun-jung = The Guardian reported on the 18th (local time) that the UK is considering lifting all quarantine restrictions, including the mandatory self-quarantine for confirmed COVID-19 patients as early as March.

A high-ranking government official said he was looking into removing the duty to self-quarantine in England and changing it to a recommended guideline, The Guardian reported. Currently, it is 5 days after two doses of the vaccine.

‘Plan B’, such as recommending telecommuting and the use of vaccine passports, is expected to end this week or early next week.

However, the wearing of masks in shops and public transport is expected to continue in the short term.

Transport Minister Grant Chaps is also calling for the removal of COVID-19 testing after entry from overseas.

Professor Azler Garney, an epidemiologist at Imperial College London, was concerned that self-isolation was an important response to the coronavirus, but Professor Rowland Cao of the University of Edinburgh said the abolition was inevitable.

Professor Cao said that by March, many of them would have completed the booster shots and that the flu season is almost over, and the effectiveness of antiviral treatment can be assessed.

The deadline for self-isolation stipulated in the UK Corona 19 Act is March 24 this year.
