Elias Christian, a resident of Providence, Rhode Island, recounted noticing unusual activity near Brown university’s Barus and Holley engineering and physics building on Saturday evening, December 13, 2025. He first became aware of an incident when he heard a surge of emergency vehicles heading toward teh campus.
A Sense of Disruption in a Typically Safe Area
Christian, who has lived in the area for approximately two years, expressed his surprise, stating that he was unaware of any similar incidents occurring in the neighborhood. He described the area surrounding Brown university as generally considered a safe part of Providence, noting its reputation for security.
The location of the shooting-at the heart of the Brown University campus-was especially unsettling, according to Christian. He emphasized that the Barus and Holley building is considered a central hub for the university’s engineering and physics programs.
Perception of Control and Concern for Those Nearby
While Christian did not personally feel threatened, he observed a visible police presence that suggested the situation was being managed effectively. He noted that law enforcement appeared to have established control over the scene according to reports from fox News Digital.
However, he acknowledged that the experience must have been substantially more frightening for individuals who were closer to the initial chaos.He expressed empathy for students within the building and the surrounding area, recognizing the potential for heightened fear and distress.
