Brunch & Hello Kitty Launch Cozy New Collaboration | WWD

Brunch, the slipper brand known for its hotel-inspired designs, has launched a new collaboration with Hello Kitty. The collection, released on , brings the iconic Sanrio character to a range of cozy items, from slippers to pajama sets.

The centerpiece of the collaboration is the Hello Kitty Essential slipper, available in pink and navy blue. Priced at $108, the slippers feature embroidered depictions of Hello Kitty and her name. Brunch emphasizes sustainability with these slippers, constructed from a 100 percent recycled terry upper and a partially recycled EVA outsole.

For those seeking a bolder statement, the platform Essential XXL slippers are designed to resemble Hello Kitty herself, complete with 3D ears and a signature bow. These are offered in pink and white and retail for $125.

Beyond footwear, the Brunch x Hello Kitty collection extends to loungewear. Cotton pajama sets are available in solid pink and an allover Hello Kitty print, priced at $170. A plush robe, also in pink and white, rounds out the collection at $210.

The campaign accompanying the launch features Makayla, styled in a Japanese-inspired home setting outside New York City. The imagery highlights “easygoing activities in the morning, from making matcha to reading,” aligning with the brand’s and Hello Kitty’s shared focus on “finding joy in life’s cozy, simple activities.”

This isn’t the first time Hello Kitty has partnered with a fashion brand recently. In November 2023, Forever 21 released a 98-piece Hello Kitty and Friends holiday collection, encompassing women’s, plus-size, kids’, sleepwear, and accessories. That collection leaned into a Y2K aesthetic with a “Hello Kitty Blue Angel” theme.

Brunch has become increasingly adept at leveraging collaborations to broaden its appeal. Prior to Hello Kitty, the brand partnered with Parke for a Valentine’s Day collection, following a collaboration with Prince Tennis around the U.S. Open. The brand’s strategy of tapping into recognizable cultural touchstones extends to previous partnerships with “The White Lotus” and The Beverly Hills Hotel, reflecting its core aesthetic of relaxed luxury and comfort.

The success of these collaborations speaks to a broader trend of brands seeking to capitalize on nostalgia and established intellectual property. Hello Kitty, in particular, maintains a remarkably strong and enduring fanbase, spanning generations. HeyDude also tapped into this fanbase earlier, releasing a Hello Kitty collaboration over the summer.
