[디지털투데이 AI리포터] There are reports that NASA’s Mars Soil Sample Recovery (MSR) project is experiencing difficulties. The MSR project refers to a mission to bring geological samples from Mars back to Earth.

According to IT media outlet The Verge on the 15th (local time), NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said, “The current MSR plan is expected to cost up to $11 billion (about 15.389 trillion won),” and said added: “Due to budget constraints, progress was not completed as originally planned.” “It’s slower than expected,” he said.

However, Nelson remained determined to complete the mission. “It is unacceptable to wait this long for the MSR project,” he said, stressing that “we will be able to land astronauts on Mars within 10 years after 2040.”

NASA plans to solicit cooperation from various space centers and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to complete the mission more quickly and economically.

Meanwhile, NASA estimated last year that the MSR project’s return mission would be completed by 2028, but at the time it was rated as impossible due to the risk of technical problems and insufficient performance.
