“We want to know how the country is doing in order to plan for the future,” said the President of Burundi after thanking the Almighty for guiding the accountants in preparing this activity which is of great importance to the country.
The President emphasized the importance of the census, urging the entire Burundian population to support this initiative by honestly answering the questions asked. This will enable the country to have reliable data for planning future projects.
The President also called upon administrative officials, from the governor to the top of the hill, to take ownership of this census and ensure its success. He stressed that the success of the census is a collective responsibility, saying, “I must inform administrative officers that if this census fails, we will have failed in our obligations.”
Mr. Nicolas Ndayishimiye, President of the Office of the General Census of Population, Housing, Agriculture and Livestock (RGPHAE), announced that the census will be conducted using a digital system. This will provide the necessary data in relation to the new configuration of the country’s states, which is crucial for the implementation of Burundi’s Vision as an emerging country in 2040 and a developed country in 2060.
