Buyeo County Office Canoe Team Secures First Medal in Asian Games Canoe Sprint Event

Hangzhou, China – In a moment of triumph, the Buyeo County Office Canoe Team clinched their first medal in the canoe sprint event at the Asian Games (AG) held in Hangzhou, China. The national team members, Choi Ran (28), Lee Ha-rin (29), and Lee Han-sol (19), along with Cho Shin-young (25) from the Sports Council in the city of Daejeon, celebrated as they claimed the silver medal in the women’s 4-person canoe 500m race.

Competing at the prestigious Fuyang Water Sports Center, the women’s team showcased their skill and determination. Throughout the race, they tenaciously fought for their position, ultimately making a remarkable come-from-behind surge in the final 250 meters. With a time of 1 minute 42.820 seconds, they edged out Uzbekistan by a mere 0.088 seconds to secure the second-place finish, behind the impressive Chinese team, who clinched the gold.

Vice President of the Korean Canoe Federation and Director of the Buyeo County Office, Park Gyu, expressed his pride in the athletes’ outstanding performance. He commended their resilience and dedication, highlighting this achievement as the first international medal for the Buyeo County Office canoe team.

This triumph comes after the Buyeo County Office canoeing team claimed a gold medal at the Jakarta Palembang AG in 2018, where they competed as a unified team from South and North Korea. However, today’s success marks the first medal for the official Buyeo County Office canoe team in an international competition, reaffirming their status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of canoeing.

The men’s national team, which includes Kwang-hee Cho (30), Hyun-hee Cho (26), Sang-won Jang (30), and Ju-hwan Jeong (26), recorded a time of 1 minute 25.006 seconds in the final, passing in second place out of nine teams.
