The Alleged Incident
Cardi B, whose legal name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, testified on Tuesday, August 27, 2025, that she did not physically assault Emani Ellis, a security guard, outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office on February 24, 2018. The civil trial is taking place in Alhambra court. Cardi B was reportedly four months pregnant at the time of the alleged incident.
According to court documents reported by the Los Angeles Times, Ellis alleges that Cardi B scratched, spat on, and otherwise assaulted her. Cardi B vehemently denied these claims during her testimony.
“It was a verbal incident,” Cardi B stated. “She didn’t hit me. I didn’t hit her. There was no touching. So, to me, it wasn’t no incident.”

The rapper acknowledged a heated exchange with Ellis in the hallway outside the doctor’s office. She admitted to a verbal altercation, stating she called Ellis a “b-” because she believed the guard was secretly recording her with a cellphone. However, she firmly denied any physical contact.
During questioning by the security guard’s lawyer, Ron Rosen, cardi B repeatedly denied accusations of spitting, using racial slurs, or attempting to strike Ellis. Billboard reports that Rosen directly asked,”Was there spitting?” to which Cardi B replied,”Absolutely not.”
Cardi B also clarified her background, stating she considers herself “Afro-Caribbean” when asked if she used a racial slur.She maintained that the encounter was limited to a “verbal fight” and did not escalate to physical violence.
Background: The Lawsuit
Emani Ellis filed the lawsuit against Cardi B in 2018, alleging assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The suit claims Ellis suffered physical and emotional harm consequently of the alleged attack. TMZ detailed the initial filing, outlining Ellis’s claims of being intentionally harmed by Cardi B.
The case has been subject to several delays and legal maneuvers over the years.It finally reached the trial stage in August 2025, with both sides presenting their arguments and evidence before the court.
