Center sells assets worth Rs 6 lakh crore

New Delhi: The Center is all set to sell assets worth Rs 6 lakh crore in the country.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday announced a package of Rs 6 lakh crore for the sale of state-owned assets over the next four years.

The minister said the money would be raised through private participation in more than 20 assets in 13 infrastructure sectors, including roads, railways, energy, airports, ports, warehouses, power plants and mines.

At the same time, the minister claims that the ownership of these will remain with the government and that it will be repossessed after a certain period of time.

The transfer procedure was prepared by the Judicial Commission. They account for 14 per cent of the estimated Rs 43 lakh crore in assets sold in the budget.

It will include the sale of warehousing, mining, aviation, ports, stadiums, and real estate properties in cities.

The company aims to raise Rs 20,782 crore (18 per cent) through sales of 25 airports, including Kozhikode Airport. Kozhikode Airport is planned for 2023.

1.6 lakh crore from roads, 1.5 lakh crore from railways, 39,832 crore from power generation, 12,828 crore from ports, 35,100 crore from telecoms, 11,450 crore from stadiums, 45,000 crore from power supply, 28,747 crore from natural gas and 24, 462 crore from natural gas. Amitabh Kant, CEO of the Judicial Commission, said the Center would raise Rs 15,000 crore from real estate. Many of these will be implemented through public-private partnership schemes.

According to the minister, economic growth, job creation and rural-semi-urban integration will be possible through the sale of assets.
