New delhi,India – August 19,2025 – In a move to broaden access to artificial intelligence,OpenAI has launched a new, significantly more affordable ChatGPT plan in India, priced at approximately $4.60 per month. The “ChatGPT Go” plan, announced Tuesday, provides users with access to the company’s latest GPT-5 model and a host of enhanced features.
The initiative comes as India emerges as a key market for OpenAI,second only to the US,with CEO Sam Altman envisioning it becoming the largest. This expansion is further supported by Microsoft, OpenAI’s primary backer, which has pledged a $3 billion investment over the next two years to build cloud and AI infrastructure within the country. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the commitment to making AI accessible to all indians.
“Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users!” stated Nick turley, who oversees ChatGPT, in a post on X. The new plan offers a substantial upgrade in capabilities, providing 10 times more message limits, image generation capacity, and file upload allowances, and also double the memory of the free version.
This move aligns with a broader trend of “AI-native generations” – younger demographics increasingly integrating AI tools into their daily lives. Recent data suggests that 66% of Gen Z are already utilizing AI for various tasks.
the launch of ChatGPT Go in India is a pilot program, with OpenAI planning to gather feedback before expanding the offering to other countries. This strategic move underscores the growing importance of the Indian market in the global AI landscape and OpenAI’s commitment to democratizing access to advanced AI technology.
