‘Children should not touch, love or hug each other’: British school orders | British School Bans Romance And Physical Contact To “Keep Kids Safe” | Education News

Schools enforce many rules to ensure student safety. Teachers and students follow them. But in Britain the Hylance school authorities in Chelmsford, Essex, issued some orders in the name of children’s safety.

The order states that children should not hold hands or hug each other at school. There should be no romantic relationship between students. If children use mobile phones inside the school, they will be confiscated and put in the locker. Please return after school hours. Parents and local people have protested against the restriction of not even allowing children to touch each other, but the school authorities say that the majority of parents agree with the restriction. Officials claim that this regulation will help children develop respect for each other and become better professionals in the future.

The school’s assistant headteacher, Miss Catherine McMillan, explained the new system in a letter to parents.

“Physical touching between children is not allowed in the school. It is forbidden to hold hands, hug each other, slap each other under the scope of physical contact. This is all for the safety of your children.

When your child touches another child with or without permission, many problems can arise. Such touching can sometimes be inappropriate, can make some children uncomfortable, and sometimes even cause injuries. We want children to have great friendships that last a lifetime. That is why romantic relationships are not allowed at school. In the meantime, with your permission, children can have such relationships outside of school.

We want children to pay attention to their studies at school. Therefore, we believe that relationship problems should not divert their attention. If children need help or advice with personal problems there are dedicated people in the school. Let’s go to them.
