People’s Daily Online, Beijing, February 4 (Reporter Yang Lei) Early in the morning on February 4, Beijing time, the second day of competition of the Doha 2024 World Swimming Championships ended. Zhang Jiaqi/Huang Jianjie won the championship in the mixed diving synchronization 10-meter platform Final. This is also the first gold medal of the Chinese diving team in the World Championships.

At this World Championships, the Chinese diving team sent its full roster to compete. Huang Jianjie, who partners world champion Zhang Jiaqi in the 10m mixed doubles platform event, is not yet 14 years old. He is the youngest member of the Chinese diving team and the only non-world champion.

In the final of the 10 meter mixed doubles platform held yesterday afternoon, Zhang Jiaqi and Huang Jianjie performed consistently. They ranked first in the first four jumps and the total score. On the fifth jump, they made some small mistakes and came second in the single, but because of the obvious advantage, he finally won the championship with 353.82 points, 49.86 points ahead of second place. The North Korean team and the Mexican team finished second and third respectively.

In addition, in the men’s 1-meter springboard preliminaries, Chinese team player Zheng Jiuyuan made two jump errors and finished fourth with 378.60 points. In the finals held early this morning, Zheng Jiuyuan was in poor condition, placed last in the last two jumps, and finally finished 11th with 334.35 points. It is also the first time the Chinese diving team has lost gold since monopolizing the men’s 1-meter springboard championship at the World Championships for nine consecutive times in 2007, and missed out on a 10th consecutive championship in the men’s 1-meter springboard.

In the synchronized swimming competition, the Chinese team still maintained its good condition on the first day of the competition. In the mixed doubles optional technical preliminaries, Cheng Wentao/Shi Haoxuan took provisional first place with 250.5150 points. In the women’s optional technical singles final that followed, Xu Huiyan, who came fourth in the heats, won a bronze medal with an outstanding performance and this was also her first World Championship medal. Players from the Greek team and the Canadian team won the championship and second place respectively.

There were also synchronized swimming combined skills preliminaries early this morning. Eight Chinese women performed well and provisionally first with 247.0233. The finals will be held tonight.

In the women’s 10 kilometer open water swimming competition, the Chinese team of Xin Xin and Mao Yihan were ranked 37th and 40th respectively.

This afternoon, two world champions, Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi, will feature in the women’s 10-meter platform heats, while Wang Zongyuan/Long Daoyi will compete in the men’s 3-meter synchronized springboard final. In addition, young player Xu Huiyan will continue to participate in the women’s synchronized free singles swimming preliminaries, while the Chinese flower swimming team will make its final appearance in the combined skills final. Tomorrow morning, Cheng Wentao/Shi Haoyu will launch an attack on the Huayou Mixed Doubles Technical Optional Gold Medal.

In addition, Zhang Jinhou and Liu Peixin will compete in the men’s 10-kilometer open water race, and the Chinese women’s water polo team will face the Spanish team in the group stage.
