Venezuelan Baseball League: Chourio makes Debut, Leones Roar in Caracas
Caracas, Venezuela – The Venezuelan Baseball League (LVBP) saw a flurry of action Wednesday night, highlighted by the debut of Milwaukee Brewers star prospect Jackson Chourio.
Chourio, a finalist for the National League Rookie of the Year award, entered the game as a pinch runner in the eighth inning for the Águilas del Zulia, eventually scoring a run in their 8-3 victory over the Navegantes del Magallanes. At just 20 years old,Chourio made history this past season in the MLB,becoming the youngest player ever to hit 20 home runs and steal 20 bases in a single season.
The Águilas’ offense was powered by a strong performance from fellow Major Leaguers Andrés Chaparro and Rougned Odor. Chaparro went 4-for-4 with a solo home run, while Odor finished 4-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.
In Caracas, the Leones del Caracas erupted for 12 runs, defeating the Tiburones de La Guaira 12-4. Yonathan Daza led the charge, going 5-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Oswaldo Arcia added a two-run homer, and Harold Castro chipped in with three RBIs.
Meanwhile, in Maracay, the Tigres de Maracay edged out the Cardenales de Lara 2-1. Jesus sucre delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the sixth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie.The Cardenales remain atop the LVBP standings with a 27-19 record,followed closely by the Navegantes (25-22) and Águilas (25-22). The Bravos de Margarita (24-23), Leones (23-23), Tiburones (24-25), Tigres (21-25), and caribes de Anzoátegui (19-29) round out the standings.
