Chris Conley Retires From NFL, Shifts Focus to Filmmaking
Chris Conley, a veteran NFL wide receiver and free agent, announced his retirement after a decade in the league. Conley, who most recently played for the san Francisco 49ers, is trading the gridiron for film school. The former University of Georgia standout will return to his alma mater to study film, according to his agent.
A third-round draft pick, conley amassed 221 receptions for 2,926 yards and 15 touchdowns during his NFL tenure. His passion for filmmaking, including a previous “Star Wars” project, influenced his decision.
Conley announced his retirement on Instagram,stating,”When I was a kid I wrote down a set of goals. On that list was ‘Play 10 years in the NFL.’ Now that this goal has been accomplished, it’s time to set sights on something new.”
Throughout his career, Conley emphasized the importance of education. In a letter to Bulldogs fans at the end of his college career, he highlighted his belief in using education to unite communities.
“I would like to set an example that we as people should have a goal to unite families, neighborhoods, and cities for the well-being of our state and then our country,” Conley wrote. “Call me an idealist but I beleive that all it takes for change to take root is a willing participant and the faith that it will happen.”
Before joining the 49ers, Conley played for the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Kansas City Chiefs. His most productive season came in 2019 with the Jaguars, where he recorded 47 receptions for 775 yards.
“The past 10 years have been a dream,” Conley wrote on Instagram. “Getting the prospect to play in the league was an honor and whether it was catching touchdowns or blocking for them, I truly gave it my all.”
In 2018, during his final season with the chiefs, Conley tied his career-best with five touchdowns. He then signed with the Texans before Kansas City’s Super Bowl victories.
