Ciudad Juárez: Senate approves the appearance of Francisco Garduño for fire at the INM station

During the Wednesday afternoon session, the full Senate endorsed that Francisco Garduño, head of the National Institute of Migration (INM) is the only official to appear for the fire unleashed in an INM detention station in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, this after legislators rejected with 39 votes in favor, 41 against and two abstentions to summon the secretaries of the Interior, Adán Augusto López and Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, to clarify these tragic events that resulted in the death of 39 migrants.

Likewise, the assembly, at the proposal of the PRI bench, endorsed the creation of a plural working group to help clarify these facts that generated controversy and ventilated the deep migratory crisis that is being experienced especially in the border areas of Mexico.

Senator Ricardo Monreal from Morena, for his part, proposed that the heads of the Segob and the SRE appear, since the PRI had only proposed that the head of the INM appear.

“We are not going to be anyone’s cover and we are not going to hide any responsibility, violation of Human Rights or exception to the application of the law. We are going to be firm, we are going to demand justice”, highlighted Monreal.

Nevertheless, Monreal’s proposal was voted down and Garduño became the only official to be summoned to speak about the tragedy.
