DR Congo Accuses Rwanda of Violating Peace Deal Days After Signing
The Democratic Republic of congo (DRC) has accused Rwanda of initiating attacks in violation of a recently signed peace agreement. President Felix Tshisekedi stated on Monday that Rwandan forces attacked multiple locations within the South Kivu province.
US-Brokered Agreement breached
This accusation comes just days after President Tshisekedi and Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame formally signed a peace deal on December 4 in Washington,D.C. The agreement, facilitated by the United States, aimed to resolve years of conflict between the two nations.
As of today, December 10, 2025, the Rwandan government has not issued a public response to president Tshisekedi’s claims.
M23 Rebel Group Advances
President Tshisekedi also expressed concern over the movements of the M23 armed group, which has been widely reported to receive support from the Rwandan government. He indicated that M23 is rapidly advancing toward a town situated near the border wiht Burundi, potentially escalating regional instability.
The fragile peace process now faces a critical test as the international community watches for a response from rwanda and assesses the implications for regional security. The DRC and Rwanda have a long history of conflict, frequently enough fueled by accusations of cross-border support for rebel groups and disputes over resources.
