Connecticut Democrats Targeted by Bomb Threats Amid Rising Political Violence

Connecticut Democrats Targeted by Bomb Threats Amid Rising Political Violence

November 29, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

Bomb Threats Target Connecticut Democrats

On Thursday, at least six Democratic members of Congress from Connecticut received bomb threats at their homes. The targeted lawmakers include Senator Chris Murphy and Representatives Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, Jahana Hayes, and Rosa DeLauro. Law enforcement officials reported that no explosives were found on any of their properties.

The threats against these Democrats came a day after several prominent appointees for President-elect Donald Trump reported similar incidents, including “swatting attacks,” where false emergencies prompt police responses.

Murphy’s office indicated that his Hartford home was among those threatened, suggesting a coordinated effort behind the incidents. Both Hartford Police and U.S. Capitol Police confirmed that there was no actual threat.

DeLauro shared her relief on social media, stating that the New Haven Police Department’s bomb squad declared her home safe after responding to the threat. Hayes reported receiving an email that claimed a pipe bomb was placed in her mailbox. Police investigations revealed no explosives at her home either.

Courtney’s family was present during a bomb threat at his Vernon residence. Himes learned about the threat during a family Thanksgiving gathering. He expressed gratitude for the quick actions of law enforcement in ensuring their safety and condemned political violence.

Larson also confirmed that East Hartford Police responded to a bomb threat at his home. The FBI is investigating these threats in coordination with other agencies.

These episodes follow a violent election season, including a shooting at a Trump rally in July. Other individuals who reported threats include New York Representative Elise Stefanik and various appointees chosen by Trump for his cabinet.
