New York:United States November Former President Donald Trump said that Jews who vote for the Democratic Party in the presidential election hate Israel and their own religion. Trump is the candidate of the Republican Party in the election. The White House and Jewish leaders came out against his comments.

Trump’s comments were in response to a question about Democrats’ criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the wake of mounting civilian deaths in Gaza. He said the Democratic Party hates Israel.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates called Trump’s statement “contagious and insanely anti-Semitic.” Jonathan Greenblatt, head of the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish organization, said it was defamation to say that Jews hate their own religion because they might vote for a certain party.

According to a 2021 report published by the Pew Research Center, seven out of ten US Jews are members of or sympathize with the Democratic Party. Only 27 percent of Jews surveyed in 2020 rated Trump’s performance as president between 2017 and 2021 as good. An Associated Press poll in January found that 50 percent of Americans oppose Israeli military action in Gaza. Six out of ten Democrats share this view.
