Majed Al-Muhandis: “They all rejected me and I was bullied.”

The brilliant Iraqi artist Majid Al-Muhandis said that he was exposed to bullying in the beginning, and that the matter continued even during his artistic career.

He mentioned that his schoolmates were asking him not to sing because his voice was ugly, according to them, and many radio stations even refused to receive his application papers under the pretext of incompetence.

The engineer added: “There were many who did not like my voice when I was young, and this stemmed from hatred and jealousy. I do not forget that when I was in school, I used to sing and everyone behind me laughed, and until I grew up, I appeared on radio and television programs and was rejected.” Confirming that some major composers mocked his voice, he was also rejected by radio and television tests in Iraq, revealing that he was expelled by one of the well-known composers. He continued: “In secondary school, I applied a lot to programs, but they rejected me. I don’t know if this was bullying, jealousy, or purely artistic.” Until he turned to the Iraqi composer Ali Sarhan and said to him: “I want to sing and I feel that inside me there is an artist,” so he took him to one of the most important flute players in the Arab world. “He took me to Khader Elias, who is one of the most important flute players, and asked me where do you play and where do you sing?” I was not playing and I wanted to sing, and I did not know the classes, so he gave me a high class and I made a mistake in the classes, so he threw the flute and expelled me, and that was one of the shocks of my life.”
