Controversy Surrounding SBS’s New Entertainment Program ‘Jungle Bob’: Did Byung-man Kim’s Idea Get Stolen?

Kim Byeong-man/Photo = SBS Hankyung DB’s new entertainment program ‘Jungle Bob’ is causing a stir after comedian Byung-man Kim claimed his idea was stolen. However, SBS denied this, saying that ‘Jungle Bob’ is a completely new format.

SBS said on the 19th, “SBS’ new entertainment show ‘Jungle Bob’, which will air in the second half of this year, was inspired by Ryu Soo-young, who instantly recreates the taste of Korea using ingredients bought in the local market during the filming of ‘Green Father’s Association’ in Sri Lanka in August 2023. “It is a program planned by the production team of ‘Green Fathers Association’,” he said.

He continued, “We have already completed programming at the end of January this year and are preparing for production.” He added, “Ryu Soo-young, who has a lot of cooking experience in remote areas through voluntary work in Africa, introduces K-recipes to a food culture that is completely different from ours through ‘Jungle Rice.’ “We plan to introduce the ‘K-food culture exchange period’ in accordance with the concept of showing that it can work in Korea and promote the Korean taste to the world,” he added.

This position follows Kim Byung-man’s previous claim that his idea was stolen.

Kim Byung-man is a performer who led the ‘Jungle’ series for 11 years, starting with the African episode of ‘Law of the Jungle’ in 2011 and ending with ‘Law of the Jungle Stove League’ in 2021.

In an interview with a media outlet that day, he claimed that ‘Jungle Bob’ was a program designed based on his own idea. Last February, he met with a high-ranking executive at the SBS entertainment studio and pitched the idea for a spin-off with the theme of jungle experience and healing, and the conversation developed with the intention of doing it together, but a little months. later, news came that he was missing from ‘Jungle Bob’.

Kim Byeong-man said, “It’s disappointing that they only tormented the hope of resuming ‘Law of the Jungle’ and ended up just stealing the items.” However, SBS refuted the claim, saying that ‘Jungle Bob’ is a program that has nothing to do with ‘Law of the Jungle’.

Meanwhile, after ‘Law of the Jungle’ ended, Kim Byung-man opened the YouTube channel ‘Jungle Craft’ and shows his stories about survival in the wild.
