On the sidelines of the work of the 28th edition of the Conference of the Parties on Climate (COP28), Togo and the company AMEA Power – based in the United Arab Emirates – signed a financing agreement this Saturday for the construction of the extension of the Blitta photovoltaic power plant.

The ceremony took place at the Togo Pavilion, in the presence of Togolese Head of State Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.

The document was signed, for Togo by Ms. Mawunyo Mila Ami Aziablé (Minister Delegate to the President of the Republic in charge of Energy and Mines) and on the side of AMEA Power by its president, Mr. Hussain Jasim Al Nowais.

With this agreement, the Blitta Solar PV Plant will have an additional capacity of 30 MW and additional battery storage of at least 10 MWh. This will increase its production capacity from 70 MW to 100MW in total.

The increase in the production capacity of this energy infrastructure responds to the vision of the Head of State to diversify energy sources, promote sustainable development and make Togo a benchmark country in this area on the continent. .

In recent years, Togo has embarked on a policy of promoting renewable energies with the construction of the Blitta photovoltaic solar power plant, the largest in the West African sub-region to date.

Added to this is the Cizo presidential initiative, rural electrification using individual solar kits, and projects to install mini-solar power plants and mini-grids in the economic regions of the country.

Other initiatives are currently being implemented, including the construction of a 50 megawatt (MW) solar power plant connected to the public grid, a 30 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in Dapaong and photovoltaic solar power plants in Kara and Sokodé ( scalling solar).

Togo’s ambition is to achieve 50% renewable energy in the energy mix by 2030 and to reduce emissions relating to this sector by 8% by 2025.

All these major achievements are also part of the flagship actions presented at the Pavilion dedicated to Togo at the 28th edition of the Conference of the Parties on Climate (COP28). FIN
