target Field witnessed a resurgence of Minnesota high school baseball power Saturday as Cretin-Derham Hall (23-4) triumphed over Minnetonka 3-2 in the Class 4A championship. This victory marks the Raiders’ first state title since 2007, their only state tournament appearance in that span.
The Raiders’ championship aspirations required a comeback. Minnetonka (17-10), the third seed, jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Skippers pitcher Jack Butterworth held the lead for three innings before exiting in the fourth with a reported forearm injury. Mateo Aldecocea relieved Butterworth but struggled with his command.
In the fifth, with the bases loaded and one out, Aldecocea induced a ground ball off the bat of Brady Stoeklen.An error covering first base allowed Stoeklen to reach safely, tying the game as Blake Bullis scored.Watson Fleming then raced home, giving Cretin-Derham Hall a 3-2 lead.
