Cricket at the Commonwealth Games after 24 years

The Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham from July 25 to August 8, 2022. It has been 24 years since cricket was played at the Commonwealth Games. India will take on Australia in the opening match. The last time cricket was played was at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games.

India will play Australia in the nine – day T20 tournament in Edgbaston on July 29. India, Pakistan, Australia and Barbados are in Group A. Teams from South Africa, New Zealand and England are also in the B squad. The semi-finals and finals for the bronze medal will be held on August 6 and 7, respectively.

Seven of the eight teams in the competition were confirmed in April this year. England were first selected to the Games as hosts. The other six teams were selected based on their place in the ICC T20 rankings on April 1 last year. Barbados West is represented on the basis of winning the domestic title in 2020. The final team will be selected with a qualifying match in January 2022. India-Pakistan match day will be released in the coming days.
