Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has rejected assertions that the Ghanaian government has reintroduced entrance examinations for prospective law students.
The denial, issued on May 1, 2026, follows claims made by Vincent Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, who alleged that the government had decided to reinstate entrance exams for admission into the Ghana School of Law.
Mr. Assafuah had characterized the purported move as a betrayal of trust
against law students in Ghana, criticizing the decision in a public statement.
In response, Mr. Dafeamekpor dismissed these reports, describing the claims as deeply misleading
and suggesting they were politically motivated.
The Majority Chief Whip defended the government’s current approach to legal education, framing the ongoing reforms as a means to broaden access to legal training while maintaining professional standards.
Addressing the concerns over the quality of legal training, Mr. Dafeamekpor stated that the planned reforms are intended to improve the overall quality of the system without sacrificing the standards of the legal profession.
