Dead dolphin washed up on Teknaf beach

A dead dolphin was recovered from Teknaf beach in Cox’s Bazar. Today, Saturday, at around 12 o’clock, the dolphins floated in the sea tide. Those concerned said that the 5-foot-long dolphin is the Irrawaddy species.

Mohammad Salim, a member of the Sabrang Union Parishad, said that the dolphin was found dead at the Baharchhara boat wharf in Sabrang. The dead dolphin was approximately 5 feet long. Body bruises and bloody condition surfaced during the tide. People flocked to see the dolphin. It is believed to have been beaten to death after being hit by a ship or entangled in fishermen’s nets.

Teknaf upazila executive officer. Adnan Chowdhury said, I have received news of dead dolphins floating on the beach. The Fisheries Department and the Forest Department have been asked to retrieve it and bury it in the ground.

Chittagong University Zoology Department Chairman Manjurul Kibria said that the dolphin that floated was of the Irrawaddy species.
