Delhi Capitals Secure First Win of IPL Season with Victory over Chennai Super Kings

Visakhapatnam ∙ Delhi Capitals won by 20 runs against Chennai Super Kings in IPL. Chasing the target of 192 runs, the Chennai innings ended on 171. Ajinkya Rahane is the top scorer of Super Kings who scored 45 runs off 30 balls. Pacer Mukesh Kumar took 3 wickets for Delhi. This was the first win of the season for the Capitals. Score: Delhi Capitals – 191 for 5 in 20 overs, Chennai Super Kings – 171 for 6 in 20 overs.

Chennai, who batted in reply, started with a slump. The openers lost while adding 7 runs to the scoreboard. Captain Rituraj Gaikwad (1) and Rachin Ravindra (2) returned before completing three overs. Later, Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell moved the scoreboard. With the score at 75, Mitchell (34) returned after giving a catch to Akshar Patel. After the score crossed 100, Chennai also lost the wicket of Rahane, who played consistently.

Opener David Warner (52) and captain Rishabh Pant (51) scored half-centuries as Delhi set a target of 192 runs ahead of Chennai Super Kings. Warner and Prithvi Shah’s partnership (43 off 27 balls) of 93 runs for the first wicket was decisive in the Capitals’ innings. Delhi scored 191 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

The openers gave a good start to Delhi who won the toss and went into bat. Mustafizur Rahman broke this partnership by dismissing David Warner in the 10th over. The innings consists of 3 sixes and 5 fours in 35 balls. Prithvi Shah got out while adding 10 runs and Delhi were tired. The player got out after being caught by wicketkeeper MS Dhoni on Ravindra Jadeja’s ball. Mitchell Marsh (18 off 12 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (0) failed to achieve much.

After a long time, the Visakhapatnam spectators also witnessed captain Rishabh Pant scoring a half century. After scoring 51 runs off 35 balls, Matisha Pathirana took the ball to Rituraj Gaikwad in the 19th over. The innings consists of 3 sixes and 4 fours. Akshar Patel (7*) and Abhishek Poral (9*) remained unbeaten. Matisha Pathirana took three wickets for Chennai.
