Diablo 4 Season 2: ‘Season of Blood’ Update Revealed – Elemental Resistance, Unique Items, and Build Variety

Diablo 4 Season 2 ‘Season of Blood’ Update Revealed

An official live broadcast by Blizzard on the 11th provided an in-depth explanation of the upcoming Diablo 4 Season 2 update, named ‘Season of Blood’. The broadcast featured Senior Balance Designer Adam Jackson, Associate Game Designer Charles Dunn, and Community Director Adam Fletcher.

Increasing Elemental Resistance for Survival

In ‘Season of Blood’, elemental resistance plays a crucial role in determining a character’s survival. Players can enhance elemental resistance through various means such as using items, skill trees, elixirs, and conquer boards. The higher the resistance to a specific element, the larger the proportion of total effective vitality attributed to each elemental resistance. Normally, elemental resistance is capped at 70%, but this can be increased to 85% with specific equipment or elixirs.

Revamping Unique Items

Almost every unique item in the game will undergo a performance and functionality update. These items will receive new abilities to amplify their power, as well as new abilities that were previously exclusive to other equipment. This revamp aims to increase build diversity and add more depth to gameplay.

Changes to Damage Calculation and Monster Balance

A significant overhaul is being made to the damage calculation method to enhance build variety. Additional damage effects across different damage categories will now be multiplied with the base damage sum. Meanwhile, the balance of monsters and enemies will be readjusted to align with players’ increased power.

Furthermore, class balancing changes are planned. The damage of Barbarians’ Blood Fury skill and Druids’ Sacrifice skill will be increased, while the speed of execution for Invokers’ Burn skill will be enhanced. These changes, along with adjustments to elemental resistance, unique items, and damage categories, aim to promote flexible build execution.

Blizzard has revealed that more information regarding Season 2 operations will be unveiled in future updates, including patch 1.2.1 and the upcoming BlizzCon event in November. For additional details about Diablo 4, visit the official website.

Blizzard explained in detail the content of the Diablo 4 Season 2 ‘Season of Blood’ update via a live broadcast on the 11th. The broadcast was attended by Senior Balance Designer Adam Jackson, Associate Game Designer Charles Dunn, and Community Director Adam Fletcher.

First, in Season of Blood, elemental resistance becomes a major factor in determining a character’s survival. You can increase elemental resistance by using items, skill trees, elixirs, conquer boards, etc., and the higher the resistance to a particular element, the greater the percentage of each elemental resistance in total effective vitality. Basically, elemental resistance increases at 70%, but can be increased to 85% by using certain equipment or elixirs.

Subsequently, the performance and functions of almost every unique item in the game will be updated. Unique items will have new abilities to increase their power, as well as abilities that previously had to be picked up from other equipment (amplification, etc.).

To increase build variety, the damage calculation method is also being changed significantly. The base damage sum of the additional damage effects occurring in various damage categories is applied as a multiplication operation, and the additional damage effects other than the base damage of each category are calculated as a sum operation when combined. In addition, the balance of monsters and enemies is also readjusted to match the player’s changed power.

A job balance piece will also be done. The damage of the Barbarians’ Blood Fury skill and the Druid’s Sacrifice skill are increased, and the effective speed of the Invoker’s Burn skill is increased. These changes are designed to allow flexible build execution in conjunction with changes to elemental resistance, unique items, and damage categories.

Blizzard plans to release more information about the season’s operations in the future through patch 1.2.1 and BlizzCon held in November. More detailed information about Diablo 4 can be found on the official website.
