One of the candidates for mayor of Dupnitsa was detained

He is detained Metodi Zakharinov, nominated by an initiative committee for mayor of Dupnitsa in the upcoming local elections. This was announced by the spokesperson of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyustendil Mariyana Sirakova.

The detention of the unthinkable candidate Metodi Zaharinov follows a decision of the Central Election Commission from Wednesday.

The arrest is in connection with a notification received from the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Kyustendil, that a signal from Greece for an international search for the Bulgarian citizen Metodi Zaharinov has been entered into the Schengen Information System. He has an effective sentence for using fake euro currency in 2014.

The prosecutor’s office is about to submit a request to the court to impose a permanent measure of “detention in custody”, said prosecutor Sirakova. She specified that the court will decide when the hearing will be scheduled.

There are a total of nine candidates for mayor of the municipality of Dupnitsa. The rest are First Dangov (BSP FOR BULGARIA), the current mayor Methodi Chimev (GERD), Katya Dimitrova (There Is Such a People), Milen Popov (SDS), the former mayor of the municipality Pancho Panayotov (We are coming), Ivo Nikov (We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria), Kostadin Kostadinov (Conservative Union of the Right-VMRO-Bulgarian Rise) and another former mayor of Dupnitsa in the period 2007-2011.
