The San Diego Padres of the American Major League Baseball (MLB), who emerged as the best rookie, knocked down Shota Imana, a Japanese pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, with a home run. While he did well targeting Imanaga, who was struggling with a 0 average ERA, he was eventually hit and suffered a comeback, resulting in a disappointing loss.

San Diego lost 2-3 in the away game against the Cubs in the 2024 MLB regular season held at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA on the 8th (Korea time). They fell behind until midway through the game due to the pitch of Imanaga, who was on the mound as the Cubs’ starting pitcher. They fired a comeback shot in the top of the 8th inning, raising expectations for a win. However, they conceded consecutive goals at the end of the game and suffered a defeat.

Imanaga was completely blocked until the 7th inning. In 7 innings, he allowed just 5 hits and struck out 8. They gave up one run in the bottom of the fourth inning, losing the lead to 0-1. We managed to turn things around in the top of the 8th inning. Imanaga, who was pitching well, was pulled from the mound. Luis Araes, who came to bat as a pinch hitter, got on base with a single, and the following hitter, Jurickson Profar, hit a two-run shot behind. With the count 2-2, Profar hit a low splitter at 83.7 miles per hour (about 134.7 km) and flew over the left-center fence. Imanaga was crated.

However, San Diego could not hold onto the lead for long. They allowed one run in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game, and gave up a home run in the bottom of the 9th inning to take the loss. Eniel de los Santos gave up a home run to shortstop Michael Bush. The first pitch was targeted by a four-pitch fastball clocked at 93.7 miles per hour (about 150.8 km). He lost the game after hitting a big home run with an exit velocity of 108 miles per hour (173.8 km) and a distance of 427 feet (about 130.2 m).

‘Awesome Kim’ Ha-seong Kim started as San Diego’s seventh hitter and shortstop. He recorded 1 hit and 1 strikeout in 4 at-bats. He had a hit in his last at-bat in the top of the 9th inning. After one out, he won the game against opposing pitcher Pete Crowe-Armstrong. On a 1-2 count, he hit a four-pitch fastball to the body at 92.8 miles per hour (about 149.4 km) on the 4th pitch, creating a blowout.
