Jeddah: Domestic workers in Saudi Arabia can now change their sponsorship online. The change of sponsorship is possible through the sponsor’s Abshir account. The new arrangement will bring relief to many foreigners, including house drivers.
Since March, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development has simplified the transfer procedures for foreign workers working in Saudi Arabia through the Khiva online portal. But this benefit was not allowed to domestic workers. The ministry has now provided an opportunity to change the sponsorship of domestic workers in a similar manner to the Kiva portal.
Arab media reported that the change of sponsorship of domestic workers, including those working on visas such as house driver and domestic worker, is now possible through the Abshir personal portal. The procedure for this has to be completed through the Abshir account of the employer.
The current employer should send the application through Abshir to the new employer requesting that the worker be accepted. The change of sponsorship is possible after the application is accepted through the Abshir account of the worker and then accepted by the new employer through the Abshir account. However, the change of sponsorship through Abshir is not possible if there is more than one house driver or more workers in the same profession under the same sponsor.
