Grandson of former president joins BJP; ‘Grandfather’s wish fulfilled’

New Delhi: Inderjeet Singh, grandson of former President Giani Sail Singh, has joined the BJP. Inderjeet was given party membership by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Welcoming Inderjeet, BJP general secretary in charge of Punjab Dushyant Gautam said that this shows that the BJP has a place in the hearts of the people of Punjab.

Inderjeet said that his grandfather’s wish was fulfilled by joining the BJP. “Congress did not treat my grandfather well. During the time of Madan Lal Khurana, I campaigned for the BJP in Delhi. My grandfather wanted me to join the BJP. He introduced me to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani, ”Inderjeet said at the party function.

Inderjeet Singh belongs to the Ramgarhia Sikh community of OBCs. This is a crucial group in the Doba and Maja areas of Punjab. With the departure of Shiromani Akali Dal from the NDA in support of the farmers’ agitation, there were reports that the BJP’s position would worsen in the coming Punjab elections.

In Punjab and Haryana, the Akali Dal had joined hands with the Congress and farmers’ organizations in their struggles against the central government. The arrival of people like Inderjeet is seen as part of the BJP’s move to influence the Sikh community.
