“Dragonlike 8” – What to Expect from the Upcoming Release

2023, which seemed like a long time ago, is coming to an end. We’ve already had many masterpieces this year, but now it’s time to let them go and look to next year. And although not as many as this year, several highly anticipated works are already scheduled for release.

▲ “Dragon Like 8” is scheduled to release on January 26, 2024.

Among these new releases is Dragonlike 8, the latest installment in Dragonlike Studio’s flagship “Dragonlike” series. It is a work in the role-playing genre that follows the previous 7 episodes and will feature a new story involving the current main character of the series, “Kasuga Ichiban”, and the former main character, “Kazuma Kiryu”.

While there is still time until the January 26, 2024 release date, Sega has prepared a user demonstration where users can experience it firsthand. What was it like seeing “Like a Dragon 8” as a demonstration? This time I summarized it as follows.

▲ ‘Like a Dragon 8’ seen through this demonstration… What did you feel?

As for the expanded phase,
The journey of the “dragons” doubled the fun

‘Like a Dragon 8’ is the eighth numbered title in the ‘Like a Dragon’ series developed by Yonglike Studio and depicts a story that continues from the previous works, ‘Like a Dragon 7’ and ‘Like a Dragon 7 Side Story: He who blotted out the name’. Although the main protagonist is Ichiban Kasuga, Kazuma Kiryu, who played the main character in the previous series, also appears in a leading role.

▲ The first part of the story in “Hawaii” was shown in the demo version.

In the demo version, the opportunity was provided to experience the main mission, side mission and various additional content that takes place in the new “Hawaii” stage. Although the story provided was short, it was still enough to experience most of the changes in this work.

First, “Hawaii” gives the impression of a tourist destination, unlike Kamurocho or Ijincho, which were previously major destinations. Numerous tourists relax comfortably on the beautiful beach, and it is bright enough for strollers to wave back as they pass.

▲ Perhaps precisely because it is a resort, the atmosphere is different from the previous phases of work.

The proposed activities are also adapted to these locations. You can dive directly into the ‘sea’ and swim freely, occasionally dive to retrieve useful items, and on the street you can hail a ‘Segway’ and ride around comfortably. Thanks to this, it provides a significantly different holiday atmosphere from previous works, which were limited to light entertainment.

Of course, criminals still exist in these locations too. As before, the battle switches to turn-based mode when you encounter an enemy while wandering around the field. Right now, you directly control the four-person party of Ichiban Kasuga, Kazuma Kiryu, Eric Tomizawa, and Chitose Fujinomiya to attack groups of enemies and self-sacrificing monsters. , you face him while defending.

▲ The basics of battle are the same, but the space for strategic use has increased.

While the overall picture is the same, there are definitely some differences. For example, you can freely move your character within a certain distance to gain a slightly more advantageous position, or cause massive damage by swinging into nearby objects. Additionally, there’s more room to strategically resolve attacks with a more diverse range of abilities, such as Abnegation.

The most impressive part is the unique fighting style presented by Kazuma Kiryu. Unlike other companions, you can freely switch between three styles that highlight ferocity, speed and heaviness, and through the unique “Awakening of the Bond”, you can free yourself from the shackles of turns and attack enemies with action controls.

▲ Kiryu’s “Awakening of the Bond” offers a unique thrill compared to previous battles.

Even in my experience, the fun of watching “Kazuma Kiryu” crush enemies to powerful effect was unique. There are probably quite a few people dissatisfied with the turn-based combat introduced in Game 7. In many ways, it was nice to assign a suitable fighting style to the previous protagonist.

▲ First, additional fun, it is no longer at the level of “game”!

The main mission provided in this demo ended relatively blandly with a battle against a strong enemy, so it’s too early to comment on the story, but the various activities such as food delivery, photography and swimming in the sea, set to Hawaii’, are different from previous works and can be said to clearly provide a unique and never-before-experienced fun experience.

– First impressions –
The fun of the sub has increased with the expansion of the stage, and I hope the same goes for the main!

‘Like a Dragon 8’, reviewed overall through demonstration, was a fun experience that made you lose track of time. Obviously there wasn’t much room to comment on the main content of this build because it was covered too little, but I was still able to enjoy the secondary content.

▲ Since the subwoofers are prepared so well, the power supply will definitely not be lacking, right?

Since ancient times, there has been a lot of talk about the “Like the Dragon” series, saying it is “fun that goes off the rails.” Since the fun has been further improved this time, I hope that the main game will also offer equal fun.
