Poland is ready to participate more actively in nuclear deterrence amid Russia’s intentions to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus, a country bordering NATO countries Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. Will these countries now insist on placing US nuclear weapons on their soil? Andrzej Duda’s security adviser Jacek Severa answered this question in an interview with the DPA:

“Poland will potentially be ready to expand its participation and cooperation in NATO’s nuclear deterrence strategy and assume responsibility. But the deployment of nuclear weapons is something else,” Deutsche Welle reports.

Recall Putin said a few days ago that he wants to place nuclear weapons in Belarus. NATO countries such as the US and Germany reacted calmly to this. The US has had nuclear weapons in several European countries, including Germany, for many decades. Up to 20 US nuclear bombs are still to be stored at Büchel Air Base near Rhineland-Palatinate. Tornado fighter-bombers are also stationed there to use these weapons in emergencies.
