EA Lifts the Veil on the Next ‘Battlefield’ Game, Outlines New Development Strategy and Fan Engagement Initiative
In a significan move, Electronic Arts (EA) has shed light on the upcoming sequel in its acclaimed ‘Battlefield’ franchise, revealing a novel approach to development that involves four studios working in tandem. Dubbed ‘Battlefield Studios,’ this collective comprises industry vets DICE, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and Motive, who are poised to deliver a fresh take on the series while staying true to its roots.
In a recent video and website update, EA showcased a glimpse into the next ‘Battlefield’ game, which seems to be heading back to modern-day combat. Fans of the series will be thrilled to hear that the classic classes and vehicles are making a comeback, along with destructible maps, all staples of the franchise. What’s more, the upcoming game is set to include a single-player campaign, adding another dimension to the ‘Battlefield’ experience.
EA also announced ‘Battlefield Labs,’ a unique program that allows players to sign up for early, pre-alpha gameplay tests. Unlike traditional beta tests, Labs promises to provide players with access to more content at an earlier stage in development. The aim is to gather valuable feedback from players to help shape the game’s direction and ensure it feels authentic to the ‘Battlefield’ experience.
"Battlefield Labs is a space for play and exploration," EA explains in a FAQ on the franchise’s website. "It’s an environment where we can test concepts and mechanics with our players before we release them publicly. Our community is at the heart of ‘Battlefield’; their feedback is crucial in helping us know what to prioritize, what to improve, and what feels like an authentic ‘Battlefield’ experience."
With ‘Battlefield 2042’ and ‘BFV’ not meeting all expectations, EA appears to be pulling out all the stops to get the franchise back on track. The return to modern-day combat and classic multiplayer dynamics, coupled with the early involvement of players through Battlefield Labs, could prove to be a winning combination. While the next ‘Battlefield’ game remains unnamed and without a release date, it’s set to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates!
