Ecopetrol announced gas production in Campo Arrecife, Córdoba – La Campana Newspaper

It is expected to produce between 20 to 30 million cubic feet of gas per day, until 2035.

Hocol, a company of the Ecopetrol group, announced that it will begin gas production from the Arrecife Field, which is located in the Colombian Caribbean basins, in the department of Córdoba.

It is estimated that until 2035 it will produce between 20 to 30 million cubic feet of gas per day, starting in 2026.

Initial daily production will be between five to ten million cubic feet and are already available on the local market.

The announcement comes at a time of supply deficit and increased need for thermal electricity generation. For this reason, Hocol ratified the commitment of the Government of Change to maintain exploratory efforts in that area to find new gas reserves and accelerate their start-up in production.

In a statement, Ecopetrol announced that Hocol declared the commercialization potential of the Arrecife-1ST, Arrecife-3, Arrecife Norte-1 and Coralino-1 producing wells, whose accumulated production in extensive tests, as of March 30, 2024, totals 6,700 million cubic feet.

The execution of new investments associated with the establishment of permanent production facilities, drilling of development wells and near-field exploration of new recoverable gas resources within the VIM-8 block is planned.

“The declaration of commerciality of the new Arrecife gas field is the result of the investments made by Hocol and the Ecopetrol Group, in the knowledge and exploration of the Onshore basins of the Colombian Caribbean,” said Rafael Guzmán Ayala, president and CEO of Hocol.

“This important announcement confirms our strategic decision to strengthen Hocol’s position, over more than a decade, as a gas producer in northern Colombia and contribute to the objectives of energy transition and security in the country,” he emphasized. .

Support for communities and the environment

More than two thousand people from eleven communities in the department of Córdoba have benefited from Ecopetrol Group programs through Hocol, which facilitate productive inclusion and the strengthening of business capabilities.

The company supported the improvement of more than 24 kilometers of tertiary roads, improved 129 homes, installed gas connections that improve the living conditions of 200 vulnerable homes, and works closely with communities to improve their access to water.

In addition, it has planted more than 80,000 trees and has contributed to the restoration of forest ecosystems and the protection of umbrella species such as the manatee.
