JAKARTA, Indonesia – A BYD electric taxi collided with a Toyota Alphard near Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Police attribute the accident to a lapse in concentration by the taxi driver.
Police Investigation Underway
AKBP ronald Sipayung, Chief of Police for Soetta Airport City, stated that the Traffic Accident Unit instantly responded to the scene. Both drivers and their vehicles were taken to the Soetta Airport police station.
“The situation has been handled. Both vehicles and drivers are at the airport police station,” Sipayung confirmed.
No Injuries Reported
Sipayung confirmed that no injuries resulted from the collision. Though, both vehicles sustained material damage.

Accident Details
AKP Noach Hendrik, Head of Traffic Police for Soetta Airport City, provided further details. He said the accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. local time on Jalan P-2, near the Terminal 3 departure area.
“The preliminary cause appears to be a lack of concentration, possibly micro-sleep, on the part of the BYD ME-7 minibus driver, plate number B-XXX-XX,” Hendrik stated.
Hendrik explained that the BYD, driven by a person identified as PY, was exiting Terminal 3 when the incident occurred. Allegedly, PY failed to notice the slower-moving Alphard ahead while descending a ramp.
“Due to the close proximity and excessive speed, the BYD minibus driver was unable to brake in time, resulting in a collision with the rear of the Toyota Alphard minibus,” Hendrik said.
Vehicle Damage
Both vehicles sustained damage in the accident. The BYD ME-7 suffered damage to its front end, while the Toyota Alphard sustained damage to its rear bumper.
“The front of the BYD ME-7 minibus was wrecked. The rear bumper of the Toyota Alphard minibus, plate number B-XXXX-XXX, was damaged,” hendrik elaborated.
