Elon Musk released a seven-minute video on X presenting the first installment of an artificial intelligence adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, titled “The Odyssey.” The release arrives three months after Musk pledged to produce a historically accurate version of the tale using Grok Imagine, following public criticism he directed at Christopher Nolan.
Elon Musk Targets Christopher Nolan Over Casting Choices
When Christopher Nolan’s cinematic adaptation of “The Odyssey” arrived in June, Musk accused the director of being an anti-White racist over the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. Musk also claimed that the director wanted the awards. Right-leaning platforms echoed similar complaints regarding Elliot Page’s role as Sinon in Nolan’s film.
Musk announced his counter-project on X in July, vowing that Grok Imagine would produce a full-length movie true to the art of Homer before the end of the year. Despite the online controversy, Nolan’s theatrical release surpassed $600 million at the U.S. box office and reached over $1.78 billion worldwide. Musk made no further public mentions of his project until the debut of the first seven-minute chapter.
Grok Imagine Releases First Installment in Collaboration with Wonder Studios X
The newly released video is credited as a creative collaboration between Wonder Studios X and director Dev Walker. The production diverges from Musk’s initial pledge of historical accuracy, notably featuring characters who speak English rather than Homeric Greek. Visual elements of the AI-generated film draw heavily from Nolan’s cinematic version, though early viewers in the comment sections characterized the AI acting as soulless and wooden.
As of press time, the first chapter shared on X had accumulated 4 million views.
