According to Irish media RTE citing AFP news on the 9th (local time), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said, “Although the current recommendation is to get the second dose and get a booster shot 6 months later, if you look at the data, 3 We support the fact that booster shot vaccination is safe and effective even after months.”
The EMA’s announcement came as the spread of COVID-19 continues in Europe, and the emergence of omicron mutations, which are known to have stronger transmission power than delta mutations.
The authorities required each vaccine manufacturer to submit research data on vaccine efficacy against the Omicron mutation. The day before, Pfizer-BioNtech announced that it could neutralize the Omicron mutation by inoculating up to the third dose.
It is reported that the first and second initial vaccinations have significantly reduced immune efficacy against Omicron mutation, but they still lower the risk of seriousness and death.
