Contract Dispute and Arbitration
DAZN has committed to broadcasting Belgian football through the end of the current season, following an emergency procedure initiated by the Pro League with the CEPANI arbitration office. This action stemmed from DAZN’s unilateral decision to terminate its contract due to difficulties in reaching a commercially viable agreement with telecommunications operators, as reported by DHnet.
The Pro League expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating that DAZN must uphold its commitments regarding production, distribution, payment, and negotiations with telecom companies. “we are satisfied that DAZN must respect its commitments concerning in particular production, distribution, payment and negotiations with telcos. The winners of this decision are our fans, our clubs and Belgian football as a whole,” said Lorin Parys,General Director of the Pro League,in a press release.
Provisional Measures and Future Tribunal
The current measures are provisional, remaining in effect until the end of the season or until a court renders a decision on the merits of the case. According to the Pro League’s press release, a tribunal composed of three arbitrators will be formed in the spring to potentially grant further interim measures until a final decision is reached.
Several clubs are reportedly considering creating their own channel in response to the issues with DAZN, according to DHnet.
refund Policy
DAZN has indicated it will offer refunds to subscribers should its broadcasting service be discontinued on the platform.
