The campaign of U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell, a leading Democratic candidate for governor of California, denied allegations on April 7, 2026, that the congressman engaged in inappropriate relationships with young congressional staff members.
Micah Beasley, a spokesman for Rep. Swalwell, denounced the claims, describing them as a false, outrageous rumor
intended to impact the election. According to the campaign, these allegations are being circulated by political opponents and conspiracy theorists 27 days before the start of the election.
The denials follow weeks of online speculation and increasing reports from social media influencers, Washington, D.C. Insiders, and Democratic strategists. These allegations suggested that Swalwell acted sexually inappropriately with young women and required them to sign nondisclosure agreements (NDAs).
Campaign Response to NDA and Ethics Claims
In a statement first reported by Politico, Beasley specifically addressed the claims regarding the use of nondisclosure agreements. He stated that during Swalwell’s 13 years of service in Congress, no individual in his congressional office has ever been asked to sign an NDA.
The campaign further asserted that there have been no ethics complaints lodged against the congressman by staff members from his own office or any other office throughout his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
