Erie SeaWolves to Rebrand as Moon Mammoths After john Oliver Selection

The Erie SeaWolves, the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are set for a cosmic makeover. thanks to John Oliver and HBO’s ”Last Week Tonight,” the team will temporarily rebrand as the Erie Moon Mammoths. The minor league baseball team rebrand is a result of Oliver’s May 4 segment, where he offered a total makeover to one lucky team.
Out of 47 submissions, Erie was chosen. Oliver cited the team’s 11 reasons for selection, including their pioneering of cotton candy hot dogs and the geographical inaccuracy of their current name. The Moon Mammoths moniker draws inspiration from the 1991 discovery of woolly mammoth remains in Lake Pleasant, about 8 miles from Erie, by summit Township resident George Moon.
The team will sport Moon Mammoths jerseys for games on July 19, Aug. 19, Sept. 12,and Sept. 13.The jerseys will feature a rising moon across the chest, a moon on the sleeves, and a patch depicting a woolly mammoth in a space helmet. This unique rebrand aims to boost fan engagement and provide a memorable experience.
