The Erie SeaWolves, the Double-A affiliate of the ‌Detroit Tigers, are set ⁢for a cosmic makeover. thanks to John Oliver and HBO’s ​”Last Week Tonight,” the team ⁤will temporarily rebrand ⁤as the Erie Moon Mammoths. The minor league baseball team rebrand is a​ result of Oliver’s May 4 segment,​ where he offered ⁢a total makeover to one⁣ lucky team.

Out of 47 submissions, Erie ‍was chosen. Oliver cited the team’s 11 reasons for selection, including their pioneering of cotton candy hot​ dogs and the geographical inaccuracy of ‍their current name. The Moon Mammoths moniker draws inspiration from the⁤ 1991 ‍discovery of woolly mammoth ​remains in Lake Pleasant, about⁢ 8 miles from Erie,⁤ by summit Township resident George Moon.

The ‌team will sport ‌Moon Mammoths jerseys for games on July 19, Aug. 19, Sept. 12,and Sept. 13.The⁣ jerseys will feature a rising moon across the chest, a‌ moon on the sleeves, and a patch depicting a woolly mammoth in a space helmet. This unique rebrand aims to boost fan engagement and provide a memorable experience.

Major League Baseball has approved the special jerseys for the Erie Moon ⁢Mammoths.The team​ hopes the rebrand will ‌attract⁢ new⁣ fans and‍ create a buzz around the games. The Erie moon Mammoths are embracing the change and looking forward to ⁣the upcoming games.
