Ki Seung-ho (36), a former professional basketball player at Hyundai Mobis in Ulsan, who assaulted a junior player and injured him five weeks in the front, was sentenced to six months in prison in the first trial.

On the 11th, the Seoul Central District Court’s 3rd Criminal Division (Chief Judge Yang Hwan-seung) sentenced Ki, who was handed over to the trial on the charge of injury, to six months in prison. However, legal restraints were not made to give an opportunity to recover from damage.

The court said, “There is no reason to take into account the motive for the crime, such as using violence for no particular reason.” He was not forgiven, and it seems that the efforts to recover the damage are not enough.”

However, “it appears to be an accidental crime, and the accused (Mr. Ki) also lost his basketball career and future,” he said. Previously, the prosecution had requested a one-year and six-month prison sentence for Ki.

Ki is accused of assaulting his junior player Jang Jae-seok (30) while intoxicated at a dinner party held at the Hyundai Mobis team dormitory on April 26, last year, and inflicting five weeks of injuries. As a result of this assault, Jang was diagnosed with an orbital fracture and returned to court after several months of treatment.

After the incident, Hyundai Mobis decided to terminate the contract with Ki and replaced Kim Jin-hwan as general manager. In addition, supervisor Yoo Jae-hak and secretary-general Koo Bon-geun were given strict warnings and self-discipline, including a one-month salary cut and salary cuts. The Korea Basketball Federation (KBL) has permanently expelled Ki.
