Five individuals, including three former members of the French military, were indicted May 24 on charges related to compromising national defense secrets, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office. The charges include the subtraction, diversion, reproduction, and disclosure of classified data.
The individuals are also accused of unauthorized involvement in activities related to war materials, weapons, and ammunition. The investigation centers on an economic intelligence firm, Archangel Solutions Osint, were the classified information allegedly was used.
Authorities have downplayed the immediate threat,stating that no military operations or individual safety were jeopardized. The prosecutor’s office also indicated the company in question had limited activity.
One source suggested investigators initially explored potential links to Russia, but those leads were not pursued by the judges.
“This file is the prototype of the mountain which gives birth to a mouse…We will demonstrate their innocence as part of this judicial information,” said Antonin Gravelin-Rodriguez, lawyer for David B.
David B., born in Tajikistan in 1991, founded the economic intelligence firm last september and is considered a key figure in the investigation. He previously worked as a country risk analyst.
“[My client] disputes the facts and we will demonstrate his innocence,” said reda Ghilaci, representing one of the civilians involved. He cited “the weakness of the material elements accused of (sound) customer.”
