F1: Mika Hakkinen, Alonso’s front row is “never a small achievement”[F1-Gate .com]

Former F1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen praises Fernando Alonso, who won the front row in the 2022 F1 Round 9 Canadian Grand Prix qualifying.

Fernando Alonso made his F1 debut in 2001 at Minardi. That season was also the last season of Mika Hakkinen before his retirement.

After leaving the F1 grid at the end of 2018, Fernando Alonso made a comeback with the Alpine F1 Team in 2021. Alonso is 40 years old, but there are no signs that he will retire soon.

Mika Hakkinen finds it “great” to see Fernando Alonso adapt himself to F1 and continue to succeed, even 20 years after he started his F1 career.

“Fernando started racing in F1 in my final season. It’s great to see him on the front row of the grid more than 20 years later!” Mika Hakkinen wrote in a Unibet column.

Mika Hakkinen is impressed that Fernao d. Alonso, who won the F1 World Champion in 2005 and 2006 in a row, can maintain the physical and mental strength needed for F1.

“He still loves racing in F1 and took full advantage of Saturday’s harsh weather conditions to win the second grid,” said Mika Hakkinen on Alonso’s performance at the F1 Canadian Grand Prix.

“To stay competitive at this level requires a great deal of mental and physical strength and stamina, so Fernando’s aim for pole position is by no means a small achievement.”

The race itself did not completely favor Fernando Alonso. After getting off to a good start, he had a problem with his car and slipped backwards to finish in 7th place. He was demoted to 9th place with a 5-second time penalty for unnecessary weaving.

However, Otmar Szafnauer, head of the Alpine F1 Team, has expressed hope that if things go well, the team could win or win the podium in 2022.
