Career Context and Legacy

F4 first achieved massive popularity across Asia through the 2001 drama Meteor Garden. The series, which was adapted from the Japanese manga Boys Over Flowers by Yoko Kamio, became a cultural phenomenon and a significant hit in the Philippines.

The drama starred the group alongside the late actress Barbie Hsu. Hsu, who passed away in February 2025 due to influenza-related pneumonia, was instrumental in the success of the show, which helped launch the careers of the four male leads and contributed to the rise of idol dramas in the region.

In addition to their television success, F4 established a significant presence in the music industry. The group released several chart-topping albums that solidified their influence as a pop act, including:

  • Meteor Rain (2001)
  • Fantasy 4ever (2002)
  • Waiting for You (2007)

The F4EVER tour represents a significant return to the stage for Yan, Chou, and Wu, following only occasional reunions in recent years.
