FIFA Rankings: Japan Climbs to 16th, Argentina Maintains Lead
FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) has announced the latest FIFA rankings, revealing the top-performing teams in the world. The rankings were released on September 19, following a heated international week that saw World Cup 2026 qualifiers take place in Asia and South America, the UEFA Nations League in Europe, and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Africa.
This month’s rankings saw Argentina maintain its top spot, followed closely by France in second place and EURO champions Spain in third. Brazil, who were on the verge of being eliminated from the South American qualifying round, managed to hold onto fifth place, with no changes in the top 10.
Japan had an impressive performance in the Asian qualifying finals, securing two consecutive wins and 12 clean sheets. This impressive display saw Japan move up two places from 18th to 16th, maintaining its position as the top-ranked team in Asia. Iran follows closely in 19th place, with South Korea in 23rd and Australia in 25th.
