First edition of the oratorical debate “Sans Tabou”: Lycée Vinama wins the first prize

The grand finale of the first edition of inter-establishment “Sans Tabou” oratorical debates crowned the LMVTD champion of this edition. It was held this Saturday, May 13, 2023 in the Ambassador Room of the Aube Nouvelle University in Bobo-Dioulasso.

Concerned about the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents and young people, the Association of young actors for the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents and young people in consortium with the Club of communicators, which had launched its project of oratorical debate competitions entitled “Sans Tabou on April 8th, knew its finalists on May 13th. Thus the final focused on: “The smartphone, the main cause of moral depravity in Burkina Faso “, putting in confrontation the Maranatha Private High School and the LMVTD.

Maranatha High School, which was for this assertion, maintains that the smartphone has perverted our youth since young people are permanent on the networks. Because, he says, the smartphone contributes to devalue our habits and customs. On social networks we have more vice than virtue. They also argue that ” the smartphone is at the origin of family crises such as divorce ».

As for the opposing team, the LMVTD, it defends the opposite by implying that “it is the failure or lack of education and awareness of parents which is rather at the origin of the depravity of morals in Burkina “. She considers that “The smartphone is just a tool to improve people’s daily lives. If evil people use it for other purposes, it is no longer the fault of the smartphone but rather of its individuals”.

The LMVTD is crowned winner of this debate with an average of 65 out of 75. He wins an envelope of 30,000 FCFA, a training voucher in public speaking debate, a beading kit, certificates and juices. It is followed by Lycée Privée Maranatha with 60.4 out of 75 as an average. He gets 20,000 FCFA. In this final, Sylvie Benao was selected as best speaker for having obtained an average of 22.6 out of 25 and Amadou Diallo, best speaker with 21.3 out of 25. They each received a watch from the Rue des montres and a beading kit.

In the words of Zacharia Zagré, president of the jury, ” the level was master class, the students struggled well. We felt that they tried to raise the level as it should, unlike past competitions”. “Currently, we can say that they are ready-made debaters. Both teams deserved to win, there was no loser, there was only one learner and one winner,” he concludes.
